Event director Charles Hood said: "There will be plenty of household names for visitors to enjoy such as William Fox-Pitt, who is coming along with five horses including one he ran at the Olympics called Lionheart.

"We have Laura Collett and Nicola Wilson, who also competed in the Olympics, coming to compete as well."

Other well known riders will include Oliver Townend, Jeanette Brakewell and Piggy French.

"For anybody who caught a bit of enthusiasm from watching the Olympics, it's a chance to see some of those competitors in action," said Charles, who also designed the cross country courses for the event.

"There's a great atmosphere and it's a chance for everyone to enjoy a day out.

"Each competitor has to do dressage followed by a show jumping round, which will take place in the Main Ring.

"Then they do the cross country and spectators can walk the cross country course as well and stop at each fence – we have about 85 different jumping fences in total on the courses.

"Each of the three – dressage, show jumping and cross country – take place every day so no-one will miss anything coming along for just one day.

"The Lincolnshire Showground event is the third in the eventing season which started at the beginning of this month.

"It's a popular one and attracts a lot of competitors because the going can be very good at this time of year.

"There will be trade stands and caterers outside too. But you could always bring your own food and have a picnic. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.

"It's a great day out for families especially as we only charge £5 per car on Saturday and Sunday but Friday is free entry."

The Lincolnshire Horse Trials runs from 8.30am to 5pm each day it is on.
