EIGHTY people gathered at a bar to watch a giant fish finger totally Wipeout the competition on national television.

As reported, 31-year-old Katie Finan, who works for Young's, donned a giant fish finger costume for her appearance on the episode of Winter Wipeout, presented by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram.

She travelled to Argentina for a couple of days to film the show – which offers the winner £10,000 – before heading back to Grimsby to eagerly await its screening.

Unfortunately, "Battered Katie", as she was called, didn't make it past the ski lift – she was the first to fall off, but it didn't stop her and friends celebrating at Cobble's Bar, in Louth – with plates of fish fingers!

Katie said: "We had a really good party and I couldn't believe how many people came out to watch.

"I may not have won the £10,000 but I had my five minutes of fame and gave everyone a good laugh which is what I set out to do."

Those supporting Katie invented games especially for the show.

Participants had to:

Raise their glasses every time presenter Richard Hammond said "fish finger".

Shout "get out" when they saw anyone other than Katie in the fish finger suit.

Shout "loser" if they saw Katie in the crowd after she had been wiped out.

After all the excitement, they sat down for a fish finger sandwich – courtesy of Young's, which donated 300 fish fingers especially for the event.

Katie said: "I knew early on that I was not going to win the £10,000 when I heard there were marathon runners and fitness instructors taking part, so I thought I may as well just have a laugh.

"People were rolling around on the floor laughing so I obviously did what I hoped to.

"The pub erupted into laughter when I asked Amanda Byram if she had ever met a fish finger before.

"She just started laughing – I don't think she expected it.

"Saturday was the first time I had seen the final edit and it was 27 minutes before I appeared – I started to panic that they had cut me out after I got all these people here to watch me.

"They cut a lot of it out but I still got a good show in the fish finger costume so I was happy, and everyone had a good time."
