This is Grimsby

KEELBY have their sights on top spot in division three of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League tomorrow.

The villagers are hoping to use home advantage see off lowly Holton-le-Clay 2nds and at the same time displace Grimsby side Stamford Homes as leaders.

Hibaldstow – also in the promotion-chasing pack – host mid-ranked Washingborough.

Broughton 2nds entertain Immingham Blossom Way – both teams being in the lower half of the table – while Heslam Park is the venue for a clash between the second strings of Scunthorpe Town and Barton Town.

Messingham will be looking to extend their healthy lead at the top of the premier division when they journey south to Horncastle.

Peter Briggs' second-placed Caistor Town are without a fixture, giving Andy Langford's Messingham the opportunity to put further distance between themselves and their nearest challengers in the race to land the coveted championship pennant.

Much of tomorrow's programme is centred on the very north of the county.

Mid-table Alkborough host bottom side Appleby-Frodingham 2nds at West Halton Lane.

And – a short drive away – fourth-in-the-table Barton Town take on Stuart Fraser-Cattanach's Bracebridge Heath 2nds at Marsh Lane, the Lincoln lads still being in the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Lol Waghorn's third-placed South Kelsey host Mark Atkins' Haxey (eighth).

Division one sees two needle matches.

On a ground where bags of runs have been scored this season, Alford host fellow promotion-chasers Broughton, while leaders Cherry Willingham have a home derby against Hykeham, who won so well last Saturday.

Louth 2nds have a mid-table battle with Outcasts at London Road, and there's a game of real importance to the lower half of the table when Scothern meet Cleethorpes 3rds.

A packed programme in division two has some cracking encounters in prospect.

Leaders Messingham 2nds have home advantage against mid-table Owmby, while second-placed Grimsby Town 2nds journey to Hirst Priory to take on bottom side Outcasts 2nds.

Third-in-the-table Market Rasen will be keen to step up their promotion bid during a visit to lowly Cleethorpes 4ths.

Some good cricket is expected to be played at Ashby Avenue, Lincoln, where Ash Boothright's mid-table Hartsholme 2nds entertain Dan Healy's fourth-placed Caistor Town 2nds.

The same goes for Haxey 2nds' home tussle with Alkborough 2nds, which will have a big say in how things map out in the lower half of the table.

Down in division four, Ernie Allison's title-chasing Caistor 3rds have a home derby against Andy Richley's mid-table Market Rasen 2nds.

Also with an eye firmly on the championship, Tony Potter's South Kelsey 2nds visit Morton.

Some of the sides in, or near, the re-election zone know they need to start picking up points – particularly at home.

None more so than bottom-placed Brigg Town, who tomorrow host leaders Old Lincolnians.

Steve Roe's Hykeham 2nds can ease their concerns with victory tomorrow against second-from-bottom Scunthorpe Town 3rds, as can Jeremy Slater's Keelby 2nds if they can do likewise against Alford 2nds.

Sunday sees the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire League's secondary knockout competition – the Bob Welton Cup.

Two teams from the Isle of Axholme have made it this far, despite not enjoying the best of seasons when playing for league points.

Haxey 2nds (division two) host Cleethorpes 3rds (division one), while Outcasts 2nds visit fellow division two team Messingham 2nds.

There's a solitary league match on Sunday, in division three, with Cherry Willingham 2nds entertaining Stamford Homes.

Premier division games start at 1pm. Matches in all other sections, plus cup-ties, start at 1.30pm.
