GRIMSBY Freestyle Kickboxing Club students raised close to £1,000 at a Sport Relief charity night.

Martial artists at the club took part in a two-hour non-stop kickboxing class to raise £964 for the charity, £364 more than the previous year.

Focus pads, strike shields and punch-bag drills, along with some sparring, were the activities junior and senior students undertook for the full two hours non-stop – not even for a drink.

GFKC coach John Tomlinson said: "At the end of the class there was steam rising from the floor and the students due to all their hard work.

"The team spirit in the gym on the night was incredible and all their hard work paid off to raise a fantastic amount of money."

Anyone interested in joining GFKC can visit www.gfkc.co.uk or contact John Tomlinson by phone on 07961 063321.
