Government minister commemorates 60th anniversary of 1953 floods
A SPECIAL conference meeting on the 60th anniversary of the 1953 floods were told "we must not be complacent" by a Government minister, today.
Richard Benyon MP, under-secretary for natural environment, water and rural affairs, addressed the East Coast Tidal Inundation - 60 Years On conference at the Reeds Country Hotel in Barton.

Representatives from emergency services gave a demonstration of rescue procedures on the lake to show the conference how the collaborative approach, implemented after 307 people were killed following and east coast tidal surge in 1953, could save lives.
Mr Benyon said: "Much has changed but we must no be complacent, we must stay battle-ready.
