Launch of £3m Bradley Pitches football facility is postponed
COUNCIL chiefs have scored an own goal after a state-of-the-art football pitch was deemed "inadequate" causing costly delays to football teams in North East Lincolnshire.
An inspection of Bradley Pitches – which are undergoing a £3 million transformation – has concluded that the grass coverage on the main pitch does not meet FA standards.
-

The pitch in question – the Bradley Community Stadium – will be the new home of amateur football side Grimsby Borough. They were set to play their first home game there on Saturday, in a financial boosting FA Vase tie with Radcliffe Boro.
However, they have now had to change the fixture to an away game.
There is also problems with the installation of a mandatory gas supply. It is believed the pitch may not be ready until October, with North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) admitting another pitch inspection – planned for the end of this month – still may not be satisfactory.

CALLED OFF: A close-up of the football pitch
Hundreds of Saturday and Sunday league footballers have also been left stranded by the news, as several teams are waiting to use the pitches as their home ground.

“no self-respecting fairy would look at my garden's bottom -- or anything dreamt of by council consultants...
...and nor would anybody else.
don't for one minute assume that the council thinks of anything.
if brains woz gunpowder they couldn't jointly fire a single shot in a capgun.
it's all just a wild fantastic dream and one day i'll wake up! Or am i dreaming that well?”

“ok so it won't be ready for a few more weeks............but the end product will be worth waiting that bit longer for! A fantastic facility that will be enjoyed by lots of local clubs! come on you lot, it's something we will be proud of in years to come! stop grumbling and be proud that we will have a state of the art facility that will bring years of enjoyment to our local teams, and put Grimsby on the map when it comes to some opposing teams to! My boys played when they were younger and alot of home grounds left alot to be desired I can tell you! This will be a jewel in the crown once it's up and running!”

“Take a look at the landscaping done around the Nuns corner college, you could play bowls on that grass despite being dug up earlier in the year.
That gardening is done by a army of council workers seen as many as 10 beavering away. I mentioned this some time ago to defrietas, when Khan ran the job. His reply was the college pay the council for that, I would like to ask how much and further say the council tax payers of NE lincs pay also. and what do they get.
That area of town is very well done to the detriment of other ares.”

“It never fails to amaze me how little the council get for their (sorry our ) money. £3 m
You could get 30 x 100,000 houses built for that.
No I am not suggesting they build houses there just compare the ammount of materials and labour for these projects. Same with the peoples park and weelsby woods. Could it be someone is making a lot of money with not a lot to show for it. Maybe wrong but it makes you think.
The grass can be solved with a bag of grass seed and a roller. At least for that kind of money an all weather pitch.”

“Outstanding!
This is precisely why NELC shouldn't be trusted with anything more complex than chewing gum.”

“Having sampled a lot of the grass in this area I can say that it is not up to the standard of grass in other towns.”
