'League can spark up area's potential'
SNAPRATS coach Robin Russell hopes more teams will jump on board with plans to form a Humber League for clubs south of the river.
The Grimsby coach believes the new league would be a big boost for the sport in the region.
Last season, Grimsby Snaprats Community Basketball Club took part in the Humber Development Basketball League, which involved away trips to Hull.
They also reached the semi-finals of the Hodges Cup in their debut season.

Russell hopes a Humber League South will be formed, involving teams such as Grimsby Gators, Barton Nitros, LT Ravens and Scunthorpe Falcons.
Russell said: "I've been working hard with the Humber Basketball Association to get our own league this side of the river.
"We would be able to have local matches and cup games and that could attract more teams to form and join in. The aim is to improve basketball in the region – we know the talent is there – so teams don't have to travel to Hull and Yorkshire to play quality matches."
Russell said he would enter two teams into the league – a senior Snaprats outfit and Lincs Lightning, a team of players aged between 14 and 16.
The young outfit recently won a pre-season event held at Sirius Academy, Hull that involved clubs from the region.
