Library opening hours cut in bid to balance books
LIBRARY opening hours in North East Lincolnshire will be reduced in line with Government spending cuts.
Bookworms will have less time to scour the shelves of the borough's reading rooms when they start shutting earlier from Monday, October 31.
Morning and evening opening times will be altered for some libraries, and many will be closed altogether on Sundays.
Councillor Mick Burnett, portfolio holder for health, well-being, tourism and leisure at North East Lincolnshire Council, said the authority apologised to customers for having to take drastic measures.

He said: "However, by doing so we have been able to save our libraries for the community.
"We value what libraries bring to our residents and our priority was to ensure no libraries closed their doors as a result of the spending cuts.
"By taking some steps to reduce opening hours, we have been able to ensure minimal disruption to our library users."
From October 31, Grimsby Central, Cleethorpes and Grant Thorold Libraries will no longer be open on Sundays. The last Sunday at these libraries will be on Sunday, October 30. However, the Tourist Information Centre, located inside Cleethorpes Library, will remain open.
Morning opening times will be changed at Grimsby Central, Cleethorpes and Immingham. They will open from 9am rather than 8.30am.
Evening opening times will also change for Grimsby Central and Cleethorpes libraries. They will close Monday to Thursday at 6.30pm rather than 7.30pm.
Grant Thorold, Humberston, Immingham, Laceby, Waltham and Willows libraries, which all opened some evenings until 7pm will now close at 5.30pm on those nights.
Nunsthorpe and Scartho libraries will remain unaffected, as they are located in buildings owned or run by the Grimsby Institute.
A list of opening hours is available at any of the libraries, or can be viewed by visiting www.nelincs.gov.uk/libraries
Residents are also reminded the mobile library service is no longer operating in Healing, Irby, New Waltham, Habrough and Stallingborough.
Mobile library customers can return their books to any of the static libraries within North East Lincolnshire.
If anyone is unable to access any of the council's static libraries, they should call the Library Support Unit at Grimsby Central Library on 01472 323617.
