LABOUR has taken control of North-East Lincolnshire Council.

No single party had overall control before yesterday's election, in which 12 seats were contested.

    Successful night: Labour leader Chris Shaw.

Labour took four seats from the Liberal Democrats and one from the Conservatives to gain an overall majority.

UKIP won its first seat on the council as Ron Shepherd took Scartho from the Conservatives.

Council leader Chris Shaw comfortably retained his Sidney Sussex seat.

But voter apathy was among the biggest winners - with a turnout of just 27.36 per cent.

The results show Labour now has 25 seats, the Conservatives 12 and the Liberal Democrats 4.
