Local food favourites battle it out for People's Choice Award
THE area's finest food – and the places you go to enjoy it – are competing for the coveted Lincolnshire Co-operative People's Choice Award.
Select Lincolnshire has announced the return of the popularity vote, giving those familiar with the offerings of a produce-rich county the opportunity to support their favourite.
Whether it is a sausage or smoked fish, crisps or crêpes, café or coffee shop, hotel or hostelry, there can only be one winner.
Northern Lincolnshire is well represented among the 300 members that make up the mouth-watering membership, and with just a single vote per internet connection – there will be some tough decisions to be made.
The area has got off to a flying start to 2013, with Grimsby's traditionally smoked haddock included in The Independent newspaper's top ten ingredients for this year.
Now the attention turns to a home-grown accolade, with voting open until, Sunday, January 20, with the Grimsby Telegraph proud to support the endeavours of those who help champion the area.
Last year's vote was hugely popular, and after a closely fought battle, The Lincolnshire Co-operative People's Choice Award winner 2012 was Piper's Crisps.
Alex Albone, director at the Elsham firm, said: "We were genuinely thrilled to be crowned the People's Choice. We take great pride and care in our products and it's great to know that the public voted for us as their number one Lincolnshire food producer."
For the second year running the People's Choice Award is sponsored by Lincolnshire Co-operative, and each of its 75 foodstores carries at least 100 local products.
Emma Snedden of Lincolnshire Co-operative, said: "Our customers support our local range because they're keen to back Lincolnshire producers but also because they love the quality products on offer.
"We're sure lots of them will vote for their favourite – though it's going to be a really difficult choice."
The poll is run as part of The Select Lincolnshire Food and Drink Awards, to be announced at a gala dinner on February 7 at Lincoln's The DoubleTree by Hilton.
One lucky voter and their guest will also be drawn to attend the awards – and dine on a fabulous showcase menu of Lincolnshire's finest food.
