ANGRY Christopher Hanslip violently shoved a man into the path of an oncoming car after a secret love triangle erupted in bitterness.

The victim was lucky he was not killed or seriously injured after the horrific incident, a court heard.

Hanslip pushed the man into the path of the car with such force that he was thrown onto the bonnet – and his head hit the windscreen so hard that the glass cracked.

Hanslip, 30, of Yarborough Road, Keelby, admitted attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm on Craig Robinson with intent on October 12.

Charlene Langton, 23, of the YMCA hostel, Grimsby, admitted assaulting him.

Mark Kendall, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Mr Robinson had been in a relationship with Langton for about four years, but it came to an end when he found out she was also seeing Hanslip.

There was argument on the telephone between Mr Robinson and Langton and later Hanslip.

The three later came face to face and the argument continued.

The two men pushed each other and Langton twice hit Mr Robinson on the back of the head.

Hanslip and Mr Robinson came to blows at a roundabout near Grimsby bus station.

Hanslip spat at him and warned him: "You're going to end up in the canal with some bricks tied to your feet."

Hanslip pushed him hard from behind into the path of an oncoming car.

Mr Robinson landed across the bonnet and his head hit the windscreen. His knee hit a wing and he was thrown into the road, where he banged his head on the ground.

He suffered headaches and grazing to his knee and elbow.

Ernie Lidster, mitigating, said Hanslip admitted losing his temper and intending to cause injury while his "head was in a mess" because of the three-way relationship.

He pushed Mr Robinson into the side of the car, not under it or in front of it, and did not continue any other violence after that, he said.

Hanslip had beaten a drug addiction and had taken steps to put his previous chaotic lifestyle in order.

Richard Butters, representing Langton, said she had no previous convictions and tried to pull the two men apart. She shouted at them to stop.

Judge Jeremy Baker QC told Hanslip: "This was an unpleasant and potentially very serious incident. This was no doubt a very frightening and potentially extremely dangerous action.

"Only a sentence of custody can be justified for it."

Hanslip was jailed for 18 months. Langton was given a one-year supervision order.

“The best place for Hanslip is in prison, he'll always be a loser and his life will always be chaotic. What about the innocent people involved like the car driver and onlookers? Are they supposed to keep picking up his pieces too??? Throw the key away!”

“Why do fella's fight over women?

I'm sorry but the woman caused this provocation by going with the other man, he should have walked away and realised she wasn't worth it.

The fella who push him is a fool, walk away and leave them to it, she's done it once so she'll do it again, not worth hanging around for a cheater..........”
