AN MP has called for urgent talks with the Government after it was revealed that two Caistor schools may have to merge.

Caistor Yarborough and Caistor Grammar - consistently the top performing school in Lincolnshire - have been put on a list of twenty schools that Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) is concerned about because of budget cuts.

The schools both currently rely on £390,000 grants from LCC but due to funding changes in two years time, they will not be able to get more than £200,000 – bringing about questions of a merger.

Gainsborough MP Edward Leigh has promised to write to Michael Gove in an attempt to save the two schools.

“This is not an attempt to save two schools, it's an attempt to save elitist caistor grammar school, but merger may be the only way to go.....!”
