Macca: Current crop can repeat our double
JOHN McDermott has backed Grimsby Town to repeat his side's "double-whammy" of 1998.
The Mariners legend was part of the Town side that so memorably achieved promotion and cup glory 15 years ago.
On that occasion, Alan Buckley's men stormed to Auto Windscreens Shield success before returning to the home of English football a month later to win the Division Two play-off final.
After watching the Mariners' rise to the Conference summit and surge into the semi-finals of the FA Trophy this season, McDermott is forecasting a repeat triumph.

"It's great to see the club doing well again – it's great for the town," he told the Telegraph.
"They are really bringing the good times back again and, as a former player, it's brilliant to see.
"They're doing well in both the league and the Trophy, so they could be on for the double whammy that we had in 1998."
Town's record appearance holder continued: "Hopefully they can do that because it would be fantastic to have the club back in the Football League again.
"The managers there are doing an absolutely fantastic job.
"I hope they do get promotion because they deserve it.
"If they can do that, I think they'll go from strength to strength."
