GRIMSBY Town beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Blundell Park this afternoon.

Alan Connell put Town ahead after 19 minutes, finishing well after being set-up by strike partner Lee Peacock.

The Owls hit back just before the break when Luke Boden sent a header into the net.

Peter Bore settled the pre-season friendly 10 minutes from full-time with a low shot from 20 yards which wrong-footed goalkeeper O'Donnell.

There was a good crowd of 3,335, which included 1,454 travelling Owls fans.

Connell, Peacock, Bore and Bradley Wood were among the stand-out performers for the Mariners against a strong Sheffield Wednesday team that featured Jermaine Johnson and Paul Heffernan up front, and Neil Mellor, who came on as a second half substitute.

Town: Arthur, Bore, Ridley, Hudson, Watt, Garner, Peacock, Coulson, Leary, Connell, Wood. Subs: Colgan, Cummins, Fuller, Hegarty, Corner, Dixon, Gray.

“I'd like to think that Woods will consider the option of pushing Bore forward.

York's average HOME attendance last season was 2,500. I therefore think the Osmond's 1,800 capacity will be more than enough for the Yorkie visitors.”
