TUESDAY at the Conference saw some good policy announcements from ministers, signalling a more robust approach to law and order issues which will certainly be welcomed by the overwhelming number of my constituents.
The new Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, emphasised the Party’s commitment to the NHS.
Despite Labour taunts about the Tory’s attitude to our public services, the reality is the Government are building on the reforms begun by the Labour administration that are essential if we are to deliver first-class services.

I met with senior executives from rail companies to further our campaign for a direct service to London. Nothing will change until the new East Coast franchise is in place, but now is the time to push the case.
I spoke at a couple of packed meetings about the EU arguing for an in-out referendum. I confidently predict it will happen.
Talking to the media, it’s interesting to note that many of the journalists, who last week were ecstatic about Ed Miliband’s speech, now regard it as hollow and policy-light, which it certainly was.
The day also had its lighter moments - Boris’s speech and dancing to MP4, the band made up of 3 MPs and one ex-MP; 2 Labour guitarists, a Tory drummer and SNP on keyboards at an event to promote animal welfare. Great fun and a good cause.
