LOWLY Horncastle visit Lucarly's on Saturday as Cleethorpes RUFC look to reignite their season with a victory from the first of three consecutive home games.

The Meggies suffered a second consecutive defeat in the Midlands 4 East (North) when they were beaten 17-8 at Chesterfield Panthers last weekend.

Having lost their last five away games, Cleethorpes have four home ties in their final six matches as they look to end their season on a high.

Missing several regular first-team players, Cleethorpes started slowly at Chesterfield – the hosts scored a converted try and added a penalty to open up a 10-0 lead.

But a converted penalty, by Matt Stinson, got the visitors up and running, before good running from Dan McDaid and Aron Smith, supported by Pete Southwell and Adam Fanthorpe, enabled Matt Searle, pictured, to cut a great line and score out wide.

The conversion was just missed, leaving Chesterfield 10-8 up at half-time.

However, the Meggies couldn't continue the momentum in a disappointing second half.

Amid a drab affair, Chesterfield scored the only points of the half – a converted try – as they wrapped up victory.

Cleethorpes had plenty of possession, but poor decision making and some debatable refereeing decisions contributed to a frustrating half.

The Meggies' home tie against Horncastle on Saturday kicks off at 2.15pm.

Club training takes place tonight, starting at 6.30pm.
