CAPTAIN Jim Morgan has said that efforts to strengthen Grimsby Town's batting line-up will be doubled during the close season after falling short this campaign.

The skipper believes that his side was a batsmen short this season, as Town failed to rack up the big scores and laboured to a below-par eighth place finish in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier division.

And, speaking to the Telegraph, Morgan, pictured, revealed that work is already underway to bring in "a couple" of new players for next season.

He said: "As far as I'm aware, we're not losing too many players following the end of the season.

"We'll hopefully bring in a couple of players in the close season. We definitely missed a batter this season.

"Obviously I'm not going to name names but there are a couple of players who we're looking to bring in from surrounding clubs,

"That should, in theory, strengthen our batting line-up for next season.

"That is one of the key focuses but we're also looking at bringing in a spinner who is also an all-rounder which will give us a slightly different option.

Morgan, who took over as captain at Augusta Street midway through the season, added that plans are in place for him to continue in the role next campaign.

"As long as I'm in the area then I'm available to carry on as captain– as long as the club still want me I suppose!" he said.

"But I think the plans are being put in place for next season with me as captain and I'm looking forward to it."

Meanwhile, the club's junior players recently held their presentation evening at the Augusta Street ground, with members of the under-11s, 13s and 14s receiving awards for their achievements this season.
