Sophie Powles.
The 20-year-old said: "I know what a big deal it is to be given such a big part in such a huge show, so I'm not taking it for granted. I'm going to work hard.
"When I was younger, I used to watch Emmerdale all the time. I remember watching it and thinking it was so cool and really wanted to be a part of it, especially because it's a northern show and I have relatives just down the road in Otley, so I've got a strong Yorkshire connection."
Admitting to being "really, really nervous" on the first day on set, she thanks her new on-screen family for helping her through.
She said: "I couldn't wish for nicer people to work with. They made me relax so much and when we did our first scenes together we were all working so hard to get it right."
Now the former Humberston School pupil has relaxed into the busy filming schedule, she says she can't wait to get her teeth into some really juicy storylines.
She said: "I don't really know what she's going to be getting up to yet, but I hope she has a lot of fun doing it."
She joins an established cast that includes Louth-area actor Patrick Mower, who has played Rodney Blackstock in the soap since 2000.
Emmerdale has just celebrated its 5,000th episode, and attracts an average of seven million viewers per episode.

“I hope Sophie does well and has a long career.
Shame though that producers think soaps have to be "sexy" and full of kids to get an audience. Good acting should come first surely?”
