New class uses music to unlock the memories of dementia sufferers
REMINISCING of times gone by is a favourite past time enjoyed by most – and one the majority of us take for granted.
But for 750,000 people in the UK, a simple trip down memory lane is obstructed by the cruel and frustrating condition, dementia.

That is why volunteers at the Laceby Road Methodist Community Centre in Grimsby have started up Musical Memories, an afternoon designed to take people suffering with the condition back to a time before hospitals, carers and medication, through the sheer magic of music.
The Rev John Fenner, of the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Methodist Circuit, who helps organise the monthly sessions, said: "We have heard that people with dementia can sometimes through the power of music reach back in time and reconnect with the world. This is a very special moment for them and their partners who are caring for them."
