Dianne Clark, retail development manager at the hospice, said: "The hospice has had a tough time recently and financial donations have dropped dramatically during the past 18 months.

"However, the retail department has flourished during the same period, so it is an area we intend to expand and is currently one of the hospice's main sources of funding.

"We are very excited about the campus shop and have already recruited a small team of volunteers to run the shop, but if anyone is interested we still need more help – just go to our website and complete a volunteer application form."

Institute principal Sue Middlehurst added: "We chose the hospice as the principal's charity earlier this year because of the outstanding work the staff and volunteers do with hundreds of families every year."
