A BRIGHT Brazilian-inspired logo has been unveiled as part of plans to make this year’s Cleethorpes Carnival the best yet.

The new logo has been designed by Urban Juice design apprentice Jessica Graves, pictured, who said she was delighted the committee and its partner, Young’s Seafood Limited, had chosen her artwork.

“They have a big bright carnival in it and it is set in Brazil. I wanted it to be colourful and represent summer fun.

“The carnival was nearly called off this year, so I wanted it to have a big impact and make everyone want to go.

“I’m proud to be part of the Cleethorpes Community Carnival, and my image will be used throughout and the run-up to it.

“When I saw it being put on the website, Twitter and Facebook page I wanted to tell everyone that I had designed it!”

As previously revealed, Young’s Seafood stepped in to save the carnival, which was cancelled this year when North East Lincolnshire withdrew funding from the £30,000 event last year.

It has been a calendar highlight for the resort since it started in 1976 and last year brought 25,000 people into the resort.

And the unveiling of the logo will not be the only surprise this year.

All those wishing to find out more – and how they can get involved in the event on Saturday, July 20 – are invited to the launch party at Cleethorpes Memorial Hall next Monday, at 6.30pm.

On the same day, the team’s new website www.cleethorpescarnival.co.uk will be launched, packed with photo galleries and general information about the event.

The carnival committee, which is also currently working on the route the parade will take, has also announced that it will have an earlier start this year, setting off at 3pm rather than 4.30pm as in previous years.

Chair of Cleethorpes Events Ltd, Colin Eastwell, said: “Courtesy of Young’s, we will be putting the ‘wow factor’ back into the carnival this year.

“We are hoping this will be the largest carnival yet and, of course, there will be a couple of surprises.

“It is such a fantastic community event, and everyone will be in good spirits. It brings schools, businesses and everyone together on one day.

“We have got the skeleton of the carnival, and we are putting the flesh on it at the moment.

“I was adamant it wasn’t going to be the last carnival. I didn’t want to say it, so I am really pleased it is on its way to being another successful show.”

Penny Messenger, project officer for Young’s Seafood, added: “It is such a special event every year and we are pleased we can be part of putting it on again.”
