THE Grimsby and District Cricket League's presentation evening will take place next Thursday.

The awards night will be held at McMenemy's, Blundell Park.

The guest speaker is Paul Smith, the former Warwickshire all-rounder whose first-class career spanned 15 years.

In 1994 he was part of the Warwickshire side that won an unprecedented three trophies, and in the Benson and Hedges final he won the Gold Award (man of the match); no mean feat in a line-up that included Brian Lara, Gladstone Small and Dermott Reeve.

After retiring, he moved to America for a while where he became involved in the 'Cricket Without Boundaries' project which aims to use the spirit and disciplines of cricket to turn youngsters away from crime.
