OPINION: Stags joining Grimsby Town in hunt for Conference glory
MANSFIELD are rapidly emerging as one of Grimsby Town’s main Conference title rivals following an indifferent start to the season
Paul Cox’s men moved to within three points of the play-offs on Saturday, with a stunning 5-0 demolition of Dartford.
That was the Stags’ third straight win and, with three games in hand on the leaders, they are handily placed heading into the final third of the campaign.
In contrast with the Mariners and second-placed Wrexham, Mansfield have no FA Trophy distractions to concern them.

And, perhaps most importantly, Town have yet to visit Field Mill on March 12 after the original clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Stags are, therefore, my dark horses to be Town’s main promotion challengers – if that’s not mixing my animal references too much!

“Plus if we win the FA Trophy, it's £100k to strengthen the squad. Big if, I know, but in with a good shout.”

“no distractions... other then the 3 games they have to WIN to be near the top. fa trophy will be 3 games for Town so i dont see that they have an advantage in that sence. No team in this league is in a better possition than us we have the points on the board and its ours to lose at this point.
