ATHLETES with Lincolnshire connections will be among the best of British in action in Birmingham this weekend at the Olympic Trials.

Cleethorpes-based Tony Whiteman, the first and only man over 40 ever to run a sub-four minute mile outdoors, will go in the 1,500m.

A little further afield, Lincoln Wellington athletes Ian Kimpton (10,000m) Tom Doe (5,000m) and Matt Bowser (5,000m) are also on the list of invitees.

Gemma Steel, the Charnwood AC athlete who is a twice a ladies winner of the Cleethorpes New Year's Day 10k, will be in action in the 5,000m.
