I AM really excited about our trip to Wembley for the FA Trophy. However, not everyone shares my enthusiasm.

In fact, even other die-hard Town fans like me are saying that they’re not bothered about it. Why? Because all anyone cares about is getting back into the football league.

  1. Grimsby Town fans

I understand why people want to get back into the league. In some ways, it is the be all and end all. It means more money and we could become a big club again. The thing is, it’s not one or the other. Good sides try and win every competition they are in. I think we could win this cup and get promoted.

We’ve been to Wembley three times before – twice in 1998 and once in 2008. We also went to the Millennium Stadium in 2003 for a big final when Wembley was being rebuilt. I remember how exciting it was in 1998 because they had recently changed the rule. In older days, teams like Grimsby didn’t get to play at Wembley. I never thought I would see it in my lifetime. Suddenly, we had two games there in the space of six weeks. And to top it off, we won them both.

In 1998, every man and his dog made the trip. We had about 30,000 people in the stands – although we had a few more people at home games back then. They were great days – but 2008 was a bit different. It was a great road to Wembley but when we lost against Cheltenham, it was devastating. It’s a great place to play but a horrible place to lose. Having been through all the build-up and excitement makes it all the more disappointing.

This time, I think we will win it. We’re on a good run of form and I’m a great believer in momentum. It’s great news for the town and we see a few more fans come out of the woodwork at times like these. This is also a great event for families. It won’t be a cheap day out, but it will be a great opportunity to take kids to our national stadium and support our local team.

“There is a good chance there could be two wembley visits now.Prepare to roll the dice, because top spot will be closely contested.

I will enjoy wembley and i am looking forward to it, but it was always about the league for me.

The team is capable of achieving glorey on both fronts, we all know that! Lets just hope we havn't over extended ourselves eh

    Keep the faith & UTM”

I saw us lose at Cardiff against Cheltenham, managed by a bloke who already had his bags packed and with half the team in a similar position. Losing against Franchise FC at the rebuilt Wembley wasn't devastating as it was a meaningless cup, rather like the FA Trophy.”
