POLICE and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove has expressed his "disappointment" after just three people said they wished to take part in a consultation on cutting crime – forcing him to cancel.

He said despite extensive publicity he was shocked so few people wished to attend the event at the Grimsby Institute.

As reported, the aim of the evening had been to allow members of the public to discuss his Police And Crime Plan, which sets out his vision for cutting crime.

Mr Grove, pictured, said: "It is important for me to hear the views of the public and my office has contacted all three individually and sent them a copy of the plan and I will respond to their feedback."

The commissioner's plan includes a drive to target crime hotspots, as 45 per cent of all crime in the Humberside Police force area takes place in just 16 of the 81 wards covered.

Mr Grove is also aiming for greater collaboration with health services to tackle drug addicts and stem the spiral of drug abusers' children continuing with problems faced by their parents.

For those who could not attend the consultation this week, there is another chance for people to have their say, face-to-face, next month.

He said: "Historically, with the former police authority, public meetings held on an evening are usually poorly attended, which is why I am holding regular street surgeries on Saturday mornings.

"These have been very successful and I will be holding another in Grimsby on Saturday April 6, at Freeman Street Market, from 10am to 12pm.

"I welcome feedback from the public on crime and policing in North East Lincolnshire and I look forward to meeting residents at the next street surgery."

Actually, I think it's the PCC that should be cancelled due to lack of interest...”

"PCC Beginning to look like a non job with a deputy."

Add to that the PCC panel. And don't forget the police authority which we were duped into believing was being replaced by the Commissioner. That never happened, they just dropped the name.”

“Perhaps local experience is that whilst various groups or individuals claim to be wanting to hear what the public has to say - they then go about things in their own way, as per their original plan, taking no regard of the opinions and concerns of the people consulted.”

“Nobody here wants Humberside Police or Humberside anything. We want to take part in something that we have a sense of belonging to, not an alien organisation foisted upon us by Stalinist civil servants.”

“Maybe a reflection on the man himself, the position he holds and lack of faith. Just a thought. Freemo mkt, now I think he may get some feedback there.”
