Pakistan calamity is a real SOS call
WITH all the publicity this year regarding aid to developing countries going astray, I think some people may not be distinguishing between that and the terrible emergency which now faces Pakistan with the monsoon floods.
We see on the television every day the Pakistani people complaining that their government isn't doing much to help them.
This is a real, natural catastrophe and Pakistan needs as much financial help as it can get.
They haven't received anything like enough funds yet to cope with the calamity for which they genuinely need aid. Please do give.
Judy Gibbard, Littelcoates Road, Grimsby.
The national media is making it known that the British public's generosity is falling well short of the norm when it comes to the flood tragedy in Pakistan.
Our MPs and learned reporters seem to be at a loss to explain this sudden refusal by the British people to part with their money.
I believe that there are three reasons:
First, there is simply not the money available in these days of austerity.
And second, the many who gave so generously to Haiti are angry because so much of this money seems to be unaccounted for and certainly did not go where it was intended – for the poor.
Thirdly, Pakistan is a Muslim country and Muslim terrorists constantly threaten the lives of innocent British.
Now they are in trouble and "demand" our help. We help many, many people around the world – why should we help those who would destroy Christianity and our way of life?
I realise that our MPs will not like this last answer but when was the last time they truly listened to the British people and did what was required of them?

The Telegraph says
At times of natural disasters – and one that has left millions of people in Pakistan without homes – politics should be put aside.
