The letters were sent to The Grimsby-based Pink Berets, formerly the Grimsby Wives and Girlfriends, Mums and Dads of serving men and women in the Armed Forces.

They raised money by organising a bag-packing service at the superstore.

Shoppers were invited to give cash and donate goods to be wrapped up in parcels for the troops.

Some bought wristbands showing support for troops charity Help for Heroes and others bought key-rings, teddies, mugs and notepads.

Pink Berets spokeswoman Jo Edwards said: "It has been fabulous. We have been inundated with contributions. The support has been overwhelming."
