People's Park friends group gets in the swing of things
PLANS to preserve People's Park as a "focal point of the community" have been stepped up by a new group dedicated to breathing new life into the area.
Neighbours from the surrounding streets have teamed up with local councillors in a bid to encourage more families to make use of the facilities on offer at the park throughout the year.

The newly launched group Friends Of The Park, who are looking to encourage more visitors to Grimsby's People's Park.
The group, who will go under the name 'The Friends of the Park', are determined to spark fresh interest into matters concerning the Grimsby beauty spot after a previous organisation disbanded earlier this year following a lack of interest.
First on the agenda for the eight member committee is a meet and greet fun day at the Welholme Road green space next Sunday where residents will be invited to put forward their thoughts on how best to attract new visitors.
To find out more about their plans – and why they have already secured the backing of council leaders – see today's Grimsby Telegraph.

“Harry Lamb said to his little dog,"this will be nice Susie" as he rolled up his Daily Mirror and tucked it safely under his arm "these lovely people are going to make the park a nice place again". "We can pop in there and have a nice cup of tea and a biscuit on our way to see the labour lady, can't we Susie". The little dog looked up at him and wagged her tail. She liked soggy biscuits dunked in hot tea. She only had four teeth left,it was an easy snack. "Off we go then Susie" said Harry as he walked and whistled on down the road with the happy little dog bouncing along beside him. "I must tell the labour lady all about it when I get there". "She will be so happy she might not tell me to occupy my mind this week".”

“Best of luck to them, Beaumont Park in Huddersfield was restored and is maintained by a Friends of the Park group. They continue to improve the grounds and run a wide variety of events from plant sales to concerts. The visitors centre they have built is home to a variety of clubs as well as providing a cafe on week ends.
Local pride and involvement is more important than the councils efforts which usually revolve around basic maintenance. Once local people see the park as an asset it will be less prone to vandalism and the general degradation that happens over time. Green spaces are important in our towns and cities and it is far better to see them used by the local community than them becoming waste grounds.”
