FOODIES in Cleethorpes will have their tastebuds tickled with fine French cuisine following the opening of a new deli.

Following the "overwhelming" success of French brasserie restaurant Petit Delight, in Sea View Street, which opened less than a year ago, the owners have opened their own deli – Petit Pantry – next door.

FAB FOOD: At the Petit Pantry, in Seaview Street, Cleethorpes, are co-owners, from front right, Arnaud Bernard, Louise Allenby and Joyce Ward, with shop assistant Carol Garrod. Picture: Jon Corken. Buy this photo at www.thisisphotosales.co.uk/grimsby or by contacting 08444 060910.

Boasting a range of French meats, patés, breads and pastries, owners and professional chefs, Louise Allenby and partner Arnaud Bernard, are hopeful it will prove just as successful.

Both trained in France and they bake all the pastries, cakes and breads among other delicious treats, while the olives, preserves and pastas are bought in from their range of contacts in England and France.

They also offer a food-to-go range, including handmade sandwiches, salads and hot drinks.

Arnaud said: "We offer a fine selection of beautiful quality deli products. Some of them are French, but we also offer beautiful British cheeses and have plans to bring in some Italian products, too.

"We both love food and seeing people enjoy food, so this is away for us to reach people that don't come into the restaurant."

Every product has been carefully researched and tasted by Arnaud and Louise and if they do not like what they try it will not make it onto their shelves.

Both are still reeling at the success of Petit Delight and Arnaud, who moved to Cleethorpes less than a year ago, has settled into the resort well.

Louise said: "It is still overwhelming. Every day we are still bowled over by it and the feedback continues to be wonderful."

Arnaud said: "People are really getting us, they know we are here to stay. We have regular customers, some people come in every day. It is a lovely time for us.

"We put Petit Delight here for the locals and the locals are using it. We want to fit into the community. We are fulfilling our role and have a purpose and that feels really nice."

Customer Jane Gale, of Cleethorpes, has been looking forward to the deli opening after returning home from a holiday in France.

She said: "It looks lovely. I have been waiting for it to open and I already patronise the restaurant a lot. It is nice to have food like this in Cleethorpes. I have just come back from France and I miss it, so this is great."

“I've been to France numerous time and the food is excellent, contrary to popular belief the people aren't cold and unfriendly either, it does help if you speak their language in their country or at least try to. I'll pay Petit Pantry a visit.”
