PHOENIX and Harvest Moon will go head-to-head in the final of the John Pettit Saturday Cricket League Cup on Sunday, after exciting victories in their two semi-final matches.

Rose and Crown travelled to Phoenix's hospital ground for the first semi-final.

And after being put into bat, Phoenix made 25 in four overs, before Bland (5-0-26-1) made the breakthrough when he had Gareth Cook (14) caught behind.

Tim Tail (48), Craig Dickson (24) and Jason Stead (22) batted steadily against the spirited five-over spells of Pete Manarin (0-28), Ken Meech (1-25) and Cordingley (1-26).

But the last three overs tellingly went for 37 runs as Andy Duliea (20 not out) and a blistering innings from Bob Free (16 not out) saw Phoenix post a total of 164 for five off 25 overs.

After suffering an early setback, Meech (30) and I Wheatley (52) took the Rose and Crown score to 115 in 18 overs when Henry Gillott (5-0-17 1) and Tim Gillott (5-0-32-1) removed the batsmen.

Wickets were traded for runs in a frantic run chase as, the wizard Waheed (5-0-22-3) and Dickson (5-1-20-4) cashed in to leave Rose and Crown on 137 for nine at the close.

Manarin was stranded on 10 not out, giving Phoenix a 27-run victory.

The second semi-final turned out to be a more one-sided affair when Harvest Moon visited league leaders Cuxwold.

The visitors batted first and lost their first wicket when Roger Bentley (15) was bowled by Tim Harvey (5-0-22-1).

The Moon soon recovered, however, and their second-wicket stand proved to be their most profitable.

Eventually, Paul Morgan, who hit an impressive 60, fell to Tom Bromley (3-0-25-1), while Alan Bould accounted for Gavin Warnock (48).

Dan Baker hit a quickfire 27 before he was bowled by Bould (5-0-41-2) and Harvest Moon closed their 25-over innings on 169 for five.

After withstanding a tidy spell from Warnock (5-0-12-0), Cuxwold began to make steady progress through Simon Gibbons (16) and Bromley (18), until both were sent on their way by Bentley (5-1-18-3).

The dangerous Bould (20) then fell to a catch by Bentley off Steve Batts (2 0-10-2) and Cuxwold's position worsened with a two-wicket blast from Gavin Turner (5-0-18-2).

Paul Skudder made nine not out, while Harvey added 10 before falling to Mark Dent (3-0-21-2), who took the final wicket, with Cuxwold dismissed for 108 – 61 runs behind Harvest Moon.
