IT'S hard to believe but Grimsby Town are already over a quarter of the way through their Blue Square Bet Premier campaign.

And while Saturday's 0-0 draw at Newport County saw Paul Hurst and Rob Scott's men draw a blank, there have been plenty of goals for Mariners fans to cheer this season.

Blundell Park has been a particularly happy hunting ground – especially of late – with 13 of Town's 18 goals coming at home.

And now's your chance to tell us which of those strikes has been your favourite so far.

“I enjoyed Ponds against Stockport, both of Hannahs goals, particularly the one against Gateshead where Neilsons utter determination taking two players out of the defence has stunned the away side, then there is Colbeck who has had a few this season and also hit the woodwork numerous times all with one thing in common, determination and that for me equals pride in wearing the shirt, all of these goals displayed that, Pond absolutely flung himself through the ball for his and that for me is the big difference this season, Cook is one of the few players who maybe needs to up his determination a little and with that his confidence will come but he has been winning more balls lately and playing some neat touches in tight areas, he just needs to stop dropping his shoulders when it doesn't come off and instead get chasing that ball back and believe in his self more, he's got good feet when the ball is played into him!
For me It is very difficult to vote for one particular goal, I loved Hannahs one touch finish when the Luton defender actually had possession of the ball but most of the others have been just as enjoyable as the team is finally attacking as a unit, I give Aswad Thomas a lot of credit for that and even Wood has started making some positive runs down the pitch lately and his determination just adds to what is becoming one of the most driven and motivated teams I have seen grace the Blundell Park turf for a long while.
One thing I have always said is that if we get players in that box as all the top teams do, we then just have to hit the target and the chances of us picking up that dropped shot or deflected ball are much greater, many of our goals this season have come from that second ball, whether it be off the wood work or the keeper so long as we remember that its working and continue to get forward we will have a great chance of scoring bucket loads. That was the main worry for me this season. Wrexham, Fleetwood, Crawley, some of the most successful clubs in this division more recently have all scored a clear ten goals plus than most of those teams around them and also kept a reasonable defensive record or goal difference at least, If we are aiming for that top spot or even just to be sure of those play offs we have to find that balance, sometimes I think our defence can cope if our full backs or Mids go a fraction more attacking in their mindset, getting that balance right is the key for me, our defence will no doubt be a massive part of any success we get this season and has been the most effective part of our team so far but those 6 or so draws are only the equivalent of two wins, that is great when you consider points away at Newport who were top before the weekend but not so great when you consider we are 6 points off the top having only lost once and scoring for fun in a number of our games.
There is absolutely no criticism intended just a suggestion that maybe we shouldn't be so scared of losing but more confident in our teams attacking ability and in that solid defence to hold out when we do venture forward just a little more often!.
So long as we keep defending as a team and every player keeps that determination to win in every minute of every match then this team can achieve great things, the Defence including James has been a power house so far, even when we get the set pieces I'm always expecting Pearson or Pond to go close as they come crashing in and those goals too will be vital come the end of the season.
Has the midfield has finally clicked?, for me it has been the lacking department since the likes of Groves and thereafter Burnett, Pouton and Donovan, its been lacking for the best part of ten years and that cost us but Colbeck and Thomas have sparked life into those wings and the introduction of Neilson has made it as close to complete as I can remember, Niven is giving Disley more time and space, Then theres Hannah up top who looks as quick thinking as Mendonca,
    Exciting times,
    UTM 12-13”
