THE pilot of the helicopter that collided with a crane and crashed to the ground in central London today, was a former Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance pilot.

Captain Pete Barnes flew the area's ambucopter and would probably have been involved in incidents in North East Lincolnshire.

He was killed this morning when the commerical helicopter he was piloting collided with a crane on a skyscraper in bad weather and plummeted onto traffic below.

A bystander on the ground was also killed and several people were seriously injured.
