Similarly, local venues can offer invaluable help with all aspects of organising your big occasion, from decoration to menus and accommodation. They can also be on hand on the day itself to make sure everything runs smoothly.

And there's no finer way to begin your preparations than with a visit to The Lincs Wedding Show, which takes place this Sunday at Grimsby Auditorium, from 10.30am to 4pm.

Now in its eighth year, the event is being sponsored by Grimsby-based Pronuptia Bridal & Menswear – in conjunction with Fairytales and WeddingHD.co.uk – and will feature around 90 stands, covering a massive range of products and services.

"As previously, there'll be a number of new exhibitors, such as 'First Wedding Dances' from a lady called Laura Jarvis, who choreographs a wedding dance for the bride and groom," said Jon Hancock, joint proprietor of Pronuptia, with wife Nikki.

"Another is '1 Click-Media', which supplies photo booths for guests to take their own fun, quirky pictures, plus we have around a dozen venues, some of which are just launching wedding services, like Cleatham Hall, near Manton, and the Walcot Hall Estate in Alkborough.

"On the Pronuptia stand, we'll be displaying a wonderful selection of bridal gowns, too, including the 'Sienna Rose' range, which is exclusively available from us.

"And there will be gowns to suit all budgets, from the 'Fabuless' range by Alfred Angelo, starting from £200, to the 'Justin Alexander' collection by Tony Mentel – who was named as the US 'Bridal Designer of the Year' in 2012 – which range in price from £900 to £1,700.

"We'll also be holding a prize draw to win a wedding gown to the value of £1,000. All you have to do is visit our stand and the winner will be announced later in the day.

"The show itself has just got bigger and bigger and we've had lots of interest, especially through our Facebook Fan Page, which you can find by searching for The Lincs Wedding Show. So it promises to be an excellent event."
