Plans for shop and garage would regenerate site of former Little Chef
A LACEBY councillor believes "95 per cent" of residents in the village want the former Little Chef restaurant near the village to be transformed.
Councillor Dave Marshall, vice-chairman of Laceby Parish Council, believes North East Lincolnshire Council should back plans to turn the derelict site into a Spar shop and petrol station.
-

The former Little Chef restaurant by the A46 and A18 at Laceby is derelict. Hoping for improvement to the site are, from left, parish councillors Cherrie Mumby and Sue Turner, with resident Richard Marshall and parish councillor Dave Marshall.
As reported, the old Little Chef restaurant has stood abandoned for 15 years and has become a hotspot for vandalism.
Despite some opposition, Councillor Dave Marshall, vice-chairman of Laceby Parish Council, insists the majority of Laceby residents want the plans to be accepted.
He said: "This would create 14 part-time jobs, plus some full-time ones and this is what we need in Laceby.

DERELICT: The former Little Chef restaurant at Laceby is in a bad state.
"This would be the start of the regeneration of the village and all we are asking for is to be treated fairly.
"Too many plans have been turned down, and that is not right.
"The parish council unanimously backs the plans – as we have done previous proposals – and 95 per cent of the residents do too."
The council has received the application.

“I think the land should be turned into a drive in style american diner , this would attract regular , classic and american car shows , bikers , and the general public , it would be ideal to have regular live music inside and out and as for the noise there are only a few houses close by so no problem .you never know this could be extended to accomodate a drive in movie screen where you could sit in your car and make out till late into the night ,just like the old american films showed .
All we need now is a developer to take on my ideas and GET IT BUILT.”

“Why not clear the land and landscape it into something of beauty so that people who come to the area can see something pleasant as a greeting”

“This shop will be for the car fraternity, not the oldies or lazy`s amongst us. Who in their right mind would walk to and cross that road...get real, it will be great to have another petrol station so not having to head down to Morrisons. Like I said `GET IT BUILT`”

“Dave Marshal and his group of moaning old committee members should get with the times. The bloke goes around laceby like he owns the pace and to be completely honest im sick to death of seeing him. The place needs a good kick up the backside and bringing into the current century. The best thing he could do is keep quiet and make way for a new parish Council of younger more open minded intelligent people who would look at sites like this with a commercial approach. That land is worth a fortune to the right people so how is a small café ever going to afford to buy the site and establish a profitable business? A shop and a petrol station is probably the best possible thing for the site but that would drive away business from the village. Something that I suspect Dave Marshall actually wants to see. Less traffic and visitors to ¿his village¿. Who actually votes for this guy?”

“Someone, I think you will find that teh good people of Aylesby Irby and Riby would welcome the site being turned into something useful. A petrol station would be most welcome to make avoiding the A46 easier!”

“It is an eyesore but I cant see a petrol station being viable.
Laceby Motors used to sell petrol but stopped because people would rather drive past, fill up at Morrisons, saving a couple of pence on a gallon of fuel but using up more than they saved on the journey. Saving coppers on the price but using 10's of pence on the journey.
And they had a guy who filled it up for you so no getting out the car in bad weather or dirty hands smelling of petrol”
