“He is not an expert in Vatican management so he will have to learn quite quickly but he comes across as a very humble person.”

Cardinal Jorge Marios Bergoglio is from Argentina, which Father Earley believes to be a positive for the future of the church.

He added: “This is the first time we will have a pope from Latin America. It has a large Catholic following.”

“b_racuda is so stupid he failed a blood test.... and even more stupidly believes that an Argentinian man who lives in Rome and believes a piece of bread is actually the body of a man who died over 2000 years ago 'will be inspirational'!!!!!”

“No wonder NEL is the sixth worst place to live in the UK, it's because we've got some of the thickest people in the land living here. The sad thing is though, that they are so proud of the fact that they are thick and enjoy advertising the fact many times a day on this website. Remember those of you who are thick, and behind your present contorted grin you know you are thick, you provide more entertainment than any comic, so just keep it rolling in and making those of us with sense laugh. Remember, if you thickos had twice the sense you wouldn't even make a good halfwit.

I'm not a catholic but I think that this new pope will be inspirational and we are as fortunate to have him as we are unfortunate to have the thickos spewing their bile here day in day out. Go get a bath and change of clothes.”

“Rumours already beginning to surface that this man backed Galtieri's junta (doesn't bode well for the Falklands) you watch all European catholic radicals demanding the handing over of the Malvinas to impress there new pontiff and more continental sympathy for the republican lobby in northern Ireland.....”
