LOUTH'S Richard Pocklington returned to the track after a 12-month break – to contest the first two rounds of the 2011 National Legends Cars Championship.

Racing in the number 16 Rapid Motorsport Legends car, Pocklington didn't take long to get back into the swing of it, topping the timing sheets by 0.002 seconds from the 2010 championship runner up Stephen Treherne in the round one warm-up.

Pocklington's sixth row start in round one, heat one, was not going to stop him giving his all, and by the sixth lap he had got his car up to second place. He eventually finished in fourth place, with the first five cars crossing the line within 6/10ths of a second.

In heat two, he had to take evasive action to miss another car but recovered well to finish a creditable eighth.

In the round one final, Pocklington managed to avoid a line of oil at Paddock Hill Bend to finish fifth and third place overall on the day, a superb result for his return to The Legends National Championship.

The ball draw for round two, heat one, was not kind to the Louth man and he started from 12th position. However, he made good progress through the field and eventually finished in a well-earned seventh place, only 2.28 seconds behind the winner.

Near perfect weather conditions awaited the cars as they made there way onto the circuit for heat two.

It was a tricky start from the fourth row, and with the number 47 car in front of him slowing down for no reason Pocklington had no option but to hit him. At the same time his car was hit from behind.

With that incident out of the way, for the rest of the race it was a case of keeping out of trouble. That is what the racer managed, finishing in sixth place.

Pocklington was once again well on the pace in the round two final, and was looking at a top-five finish when disaster struck. He was exiting Druids when he had a coming together with the number 32 car – sadly both cars ended up in the tyre wall and Pocklington's excellent weekend ended with a costly DNF.
