THE Deputy Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police has hit out at the latest ranking of police forces in England, which saw the force languishing in the bottom three.

But Neil Rhodes said the assessment did not give a true picture of crime-fighting and the successes his officers have.

    “deano, at home

Do you think it is right that these watchdog organisations are able to influence the countrys judgment? The HMIC says X force is good and Y force is poor. The trouble is we all somehow believe what they are saying without questioning how they come to their decision.

I am not saying that figures were plucked out of thin air, but you have to ask yourself what their figures are based on

If the embarrassing 10 point Policing pledge document (viewed on the hmic.gov.uk web site, on the inspections page) is typical of the way the HMIC compose their Police report card then honestly I think we should treat it as a joke.

I am not defending the Police, but it is obvious that they are doing a real job and earning their wages while on the other hand the talent-less watchdog organisations have manufactured positions for themselves, leeching off the tax payer and encouraging Police forces, schools etc to pay more attention to ticking boxes and recording their performance than doing the important stuff.

How meaningless these league tables are can be further understood when you consider one of the top performing forces (called beacon forces ¿ha ha) Lancashire, has as their Chief Constable Steve Finnigan, who is also the head of Performance of the ACPO (The Association of Chief Police Officers) who specialises in amongst other things Performance Management Training and Performance Measurement Development.”

“Not suprised really. It explains why some officers go to lengths they do to get results.”
