Porsche crashes into wall in three-car crash (Update)
AN £80,000 sports car careered through a brick wall – narrowly missing a bystander – following a three-car crash yesterday.
The Porsche 911 Carrera was in collision with a grey Renault on the roundabout joining Park Street, Oxford Street and Brereton Avenue in Grimsby yesterday, at about 8am.

It is believed that the Porsche was coming from Park Street when the collision from the left hand side sent it to the right, through a brick wall and into the forecourt of Splendid Hand Car Wash – where members of staff were standing.
The grey Renault continued on, colliding with a silver Peugeot which was waiting at the roundabout.

The owner of Splendid Hand Car Wash, who didn't wish to be named, said: “One of the workers was standing just feet away.
“I still don’t know how it ended up all the way over here, coming from Park Street.”
The woman who was driving the Porsche was taken to hospital with minor injuries and no-one else was harmed.
Witnesses can contact Humberside Police by calling 101.

“It's sad how we judge but not surprising given the media portrayal. The Porsche driver is a down to earth person who has worked hard to get a lovely car and yes, the Renault could well be more expensive (prob not in this case but a 13 year old Porsche is not as expensive as we think)
When you see the new pic in the paper of the first impact I think it's clear what happened. The Porsche would have been well over the roundabout before the Renault hit it and all I can say is that the Clio must have been gunning it.”

“The Porsche is probably worth less than the Renault. you can pick one of them up for around 7k nowadays, they depreciate the same as any old car! Probably costs more to insure it than its worth! (Ah now there's a thought!)”

“Who in their right minds (mid-life crises excepted) would want to own a Porche in this area anyway?”

“can see the excuse here...... my foot slipped (maybe blamming footwear - thinking higher class lady/high heels) for the Porsche to become embedded in the substantial wall, that if had been hit at 'low speed' would have stopped the car! (Not that I was just taking a call, hands free, so wasn't looking!).
Question; would a 20mph zone have prevented this - think NOT!
Simple rules of the road;
If in doubt, chicken out - in a 50/50 its best for both to give way.
Road Safety is as simple as ABC:
Always
Be
Careful”

“No criticism of any particular driver out of the three as I wasn't there, but I don't suppose the ridiculous plans for blanket speed restrictions in residential areas would have prevented this debacle of mangled metal would it?
Council road improvement persons take note!”

“Terrible reporting. Owner of car wash who 'did' wish to be named????
Anyhoo, i digress.
I know what happened as i know the car and person involved. Firstly, the car never was £80,000 and this one is sub 20,000 but hey, i guess it makes for a good headline.
The owner loves her car and drives very respectfully.
I know that these small roundabouts can be an issue but she was almost all the way over because the driver in the Renault hit the back end of the Porsche, so clearly didn't even see it!!
I have seen the back end of the Porsche and that is were the impact was.
The lady Renault driver was travelling at such a speed that it carried on to hit another car. Case closed. Give way to the right? It was bang in front of her!!”

“The report says
"It is believed that the Porsche was coming from Park Street when the collision from the left hand side sent it to the right, through a brick wall...........The grey Renault continued on, colliding with a silver Peugeot which was waiting at the roundabout"
Highway Code Rule 185
When reaching the roundabout you should
•give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights
•check whether road markings allow you to enter the roundabout without giving way. If so, proceed, but still look to the right before joining
•watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all
•look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off
How may times have local drivers had to brake or take evasive steering to avoid a collision when another driver flouts rule 185?
How many times has rule 185 been enforced by police?
How many times has rule 185 been successfully prosecuted in the courts and published in the paper?
Should rule 303 be used to sort out those flouting rule 185?
Expensive cars in crashes make headlines and people love to goad when one crashes. Read carefully and a much more familiar story unfolds. Modest cars driven very to extremely modest standards which are not kept in check by traffic police like they used to before the late 1990s. I wonder why?”
