A WOMAN who stole almost £100,000 from the post office she co-managed, to pump into her other failing business, has been jailed for over two years.

Linda Wrigley, 57, stole £98, 137.56p from Humberston Post Office, Field House Road, between June and August last year, just a few months after taking it over with her daughter, Corrie.

When Corrie fell ill, Wrigley, formerly of Somerby, near Barnetby, took advantage of working alone to steal money from the post office safe, using it to save her other business from financial ruin.

When she was caught by senior post office management, she lied about the amount she had taken.

Sentencing Wrigley at Grimsby Crown Court, Judge Graham Robinson said: "This was a misguided attempt made to build up your failing business. You took advantage of your daughter's illness and abused your position of trust."

GUILTY: Linda Wrigley has been jailed for stealing money from Humberston Post Office.

Wrigley's daughter had absolutely no knowledge of her mother's crimes, but as a result of her mother's actions both have now been declared bankrupt.

Judge Robinson sentenced her to 26 months in prison for theft and 26 months for fraud, to run concurrently. She will serve half in prison and half on licence in the community.

    Don't be silly.

And I don't have any 'ideas' as you put it. All I did was express surprise at the magistrate passing a custodial sentence for Wrigleys *victimless crime* , when increasingly many of his colleagues have been issuing asbo's, suspended sentences and acquittals for crimes of a nasty and violent nature.

And the fact is Mik, that whether you like it or not, there is a crisis in the prison sector and it ain't going to get fixed for the foreseeable future. Look at this:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/7884501/Probation-watchdog-serious-crimes-may-be-price-to-pay-for-cutting-cost-of-justice.html

Hypothetically .. if there were just *one* prison place left in the whole country, and it was a toss-up between incarcerating Mrs Wrigley .. or the low-life who did over the poor old pensioner in The Square .. which one would *you* rather have off the streets???”

“I think everyone should get a life and stop giving it to each other on here. The woman is in prison, not for long enough I feel, but who am I to say? Its all a big farce and whatever arguments people have on here won't change that. The woman is clearly a sneaky, fraudster freak but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Why not leave it now and see if she appears in the news in the future! It wouldn't surprise me if she did!! Bye all.”

“Yes our prisons are overcrowded. So what? easy solution. put bunk beds in double the capacity. Better still, at the same time as there are not enough prisons, the building trade is very short of work. build a few more, work our way out of recession, for the bleeding hearts among us , we could even rehabilitate the scoats by training them in building skills so they build there own nick and have a trade to come out to.
But please lets not give community sentences to thieving bitches like this. A year for every £10,000 embezzled or stolen should be a starting point. That may deter a few others.
Ms Whites ideas will only encourage people into thinking white collar crime is more acceptable than a skint mother nicking a fiver off a neighbour to feed her kids.”

Look at it another way, Mark... Our prisons are jam-packed to the ceiling - which is why magistrates are consistently awarding Asbo's and community service to offenders who really should be off the streets and in prison - how many times lately have you read in the paper of terrorists or rapists and burglars, drug addicts and violent criminals being 'given one more chance' by the courts and released with suspended sentences? And yet here we have a middle-aged woman with no previous record being given a prison place which could have been allocated to some offender who's crime WASN'T victimless, and who may well wreak yet more havoc in the community if allowed to remain free. It doesn't make sense!

On top of that, It's estimated that the cost of keeping one person in prison is about £38,000 a year. .. so as well as Wrigley's crime costing the Post Office £100,000, the taxpayer must now also shell out around another £40,000 to keep her in prison.

I understand that the Post Office had to make an example of her, and of course, she must pay for her crime .. but I just don't think prison makes any financial sense. Perhaps 10 years of unpaid voluntary work or something like that, might have been more appropriate.”

“I could tell you all sorts this woman has told me about her life - nothing was to do with this - all sounded fine though when she was talking. Again, I say, why lie when you dont need to say anything, and so brazenly!!! I guess 13 months inside is nothing to some people if it gained them a stash. What a horrible way to live your life.”

“Me, Also Watching - Josephine IS disagreeing with the punishment. In her post at 15.31 she says she has "expressed her surprise at the harshness of the sentence". What exactly was harsh about it? This woman stole £100,000 (which she won't have to pay back) and will be out in 13 months. Seems like a good deal to me!”

“I can see the point Josephine is making and I also see that she doesn't disagree with the punishment or the that the crime was in any was okay.

As for 'Me' with "board your gob up", what a nice Chav you must be.”
