Power of words at pupils' fingertips
THESE young students are on the 'write' path to better literacy skills... are you?
As reported, the Grimsby Telegraph and five major sponsors launched a major new campaign to drive up reading standards in North East Lincolnshire.

Havelock Academy pupils Emma Bell, right, and Rhianna Joyner are backing the new literacy campaign.
The As Easy As ABC initiative has been created to address a vital issue in our area – for you and your children.
While there is already a lot of help available to improve literacy, up to a third of the adult population in some of our more deprived wards have inadequate literacy levels and some children are struggling to achieve basic standards.
The campaign has already had the backing from education minister Ed Balls and now the Telegraph and its partners – North East Lincolnshire Council, Havelock Academy, Wilkin Chapman, Grimsby, the Grimsby Institute and ConocoPhillips – is planning a host of events and projects as part of it.
Six students from Havelock Academy, Grimsby, are to become journalists for the day, working alongside reporters and photographers in the Telegraph newsroom to gain an insight into how a newspaper works, understand more about the power of the written word – and see their names in print.
They will generate and write their own stories about their school, and then their articles will be printed on a dedicated page.
The students taking part have been nominated by English teachers to take part in the project: four as writers and two as photographers.
Read about what they are looking forward to, and find out how you can get involved as well in today's Grimsby Telegraph.
