Price drop causes increase in Humber Bridge traffic

MORE than 500,000 extra vehicles have made the trip over the Humber Bridge compared with the same period last year.

As reported, the cost of the crossing was cut from £3 to £1.50 for cars, and the charge was dropped entirely for motorbikes, on April 1.

The latest figures released by the Bridge Board show that in the 48 weeks since, a total of 527,729 additional vehicles have made the journey.

This equates to 73,621 motorcycles; 5,606,553 cars; 176,020 vans, and 292,860 trucks.

During the same period last year, 8,180 fewer motorcycles; 526,664 fewer cars and 27,989 fewer trucks crossed the bridge. However, 35,104 more vans made the journey.

    “A 50% reduction creates less than 10% extra traffic hmmm that hasnt worked out to well has it? So where are all these people who campaigned for bridge toll reduction, guess they sold their cars or realised they didnt even need to go to hull.”

    That doesn't add up to anything like 527,729 even excluding the extra five and half million extra cars!”
