Promotion rivals slump to defeat
GRIMSBY Town's Blue Square Bet Premier title ambitions received a boost at the weekend – without the Mariners playing a game.
After Friday evening's clash at Braintree was postponed due to a frozen pitch, just five Conference matches went ahead on Saturday.
And they couldn't have gone much better for Town, with promotion rivals Newport County, Forest Green Rovers and Kidderminster Harriers all crashing to defeats.
Second-placed County's home loss at the hands of struggling Barrow was perhaps the biggest surprise – and means the Mariners will return to the summit if they can win their game in hand.

Rovers were beaten 2-1 at Stockport to remain fourth, while Steve Burr's Harriers are a place below them after a 1-0 loss at Macclesfield.
That leaves Rob Scott and Paul Hurst's men third ahead of tomorrow evening's encounter with Hyde at Blundell Park – weather permitting.
