Question about North East Lincolnshire Council's long-term vision receives sharp reply from leader

A CONSERVATIVE councillor’s question about the long-term vision of North East Lincolnshire Council brought a withering response from leader Chris Shaw.

Speaking at the recent full council meeting, Councillor John Fenty (Con, Humberston & New Waltham) said: “The administration has now been in power for nearly two years, and as yet, we have only the reports of the Future Shape agenda, and little idea as to what vision of the long-term shape of the council is. Could the leader tell the council if there is such a vision and perhaps share it with the council?”

Councillor Shaw (Lab, Sidney Sussex) replied: “I’m sure Councillor Fenty is aware that there is a plan. It has been to quite a few scrutiny meetings. It’s got a catchy little title. We call it the Council Plan. He might want to sit down with his colleagues and read it.”

When Councillor Fenty asked where in the council’s priorities it suggested spending earmarked reserves to prop up the budget, the leader said: “What it says in the council plan is we will use the council’s reserves to safeguard and protect vulnerable members of the public.”
