Raising their hopes to breathe life into group
CAN you help an independent charity breathe a sigh of relief?
Hope 4 Your Lungs is a new group, formed to support adults with chronic lung conditions at Hope Street Medical Centre, in Grimsby.
For the past three years, the Breathe Easy Grimsby and District support group – a branch of the British Lung Foundation – has raised money for the medical centre, with a percentage also going towards the national charity.
However, after several discussions, members of the group decided to become an independent body, giving more support directly to those across the borough.

Jim Finney, 73, secretary for Hope 4 Your Lungs, is now appealing to people across North East Lincolnshire including businesses, to help the new group get their fundraising pot rolling.
The Grimsby man said: "As soon as we became an individual charity, all funding was taken from us by the British Lung Foundation as we were a branch of theirs.
"We are now starting from scratch, but this time any money we raise will be solely used for buying and maintaining equipment at Hope Street Medical Centre.
"We are also a support group and meet on the last Friday of every month at the centre, which anyone is welcome to attend.
"Two years ago I was referred here by my doctor with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
"I was put on an eight-week rehabilitation course and the treatment was fantastic, that is why I am now supporting the centre through the charity.
"I still come on a regular basis to the medical centre as a patient to keep my health in good condition.
"COPD is a incurable illness but with a better understanding and management of it people can keep it under control and that is what this place offers."
Hope 4 Your Lungs is planning various events to kick start the new year, but any donations beforehand to get the group on its way would be appreciated.
Jim said: "We are looking for people to donate nothing more than £5, so that we can start to build our fundraising pot."
Hope Street Medical Centre is a partnership between the Care Plus social enterprise's falls and respiratory services.
Phil McVeigh, a physiotherapy technical instructor at the centre, said: "Members of the charity are doing a fantastic job to help sustain the facilities here for themselves and others diagnosed in the future.
"People can get chronic lung conditions in various ways, but in North East Lincolnshire figures for the amount of people smoking are huge.
"Work is ongoing to hopefully try to diagnose people a lot earlier so treatment can begin as soon as possible."
