A DISABLED man was relieved yesterday after his benefit claim was accepted following threats it would be stopped.

Graham Blakey, 52, suffers from about ten seizures a day in connection with a range of illnesses but was told to “prove” his problems as part of a nationwide disability benefits review – and was featured in Wednesday’s Grimsby Telegraph.

However, yesterday he received a letter informing him that he would be given Employment Support Allowance from January 2, which replaces Income Support and the Disability Living Allowance.

Mr Blakey said: “The whole process was very stressful for disabled people, but the letter was a huge relief.”

“Just goes to show play the system get everything from the government do the right thing and get sweet fa from the government, the system is all the wrong way round what about us trying to stay afloat with a family that have to work to live with very little help at all and the help we do get will soon be up in the air and reduced furthermore.

Totally sickening tbh, I might aswell go back to being a government scrounger and sit around all day everyday doing nothing at all !!!”

No it doesn't. It replaces Income Support paid on the grounds of illness or disability and Incapacity Benefit. It has nothing to do with DLA at all. I wonder if Graham told your reporter that because he didn't bother to read the initial letter corrrectly?”

    “Really!!!

The letter was hardly a 'Threat' letter now was it, it was for a review.

Furthermore, this proves that the system works as it should.

Perhaps he should not have gone running off to the news papaer with a 'poor me, poor me' story prior to the actual review and should have waited to see if the system failed him before making such a fuss and getting the GET community all riled up.

    Overall: FAILED....like a BOSS!!!”
