Replay today's Editor's Debate on housing developments in North East Lincolnshire
THE issue of new housing developments is one which always provokes a great deal of opinion from North East Lincolnshire residents.
As reported yesterday, the early stages of a planning application have been submitted to North East Lincolnshire Council for a potential 150-home development on green field land on Humberston Road, Grimsby, close to Love Lane Corner roundabout.

Additionally, Keystone Developments want to build 400 in Humberston Avenue, a further 400 homes are earmarked for nearby Millennium Park and there is potential for 110 to be built on the old Humberston Park golf course.

“Do people expect families and alike to magically find housing? It's all very well people saying to build on brown field sites, but there aren't as many around Grimsby as people think. And even then, the majority of brown field sites are in and around areas in which njo one want's to live due to the nature of the place.
The majority of the people apposed to plans for more housing already have a secure home. As long as they are happy, they couldn't care less about people who are renting and barely being able to afford the rent. I would go as far as to say that it is selfishness.
To stop development of affordable housing just for the sake of some grass land is ridiculous.
I appriciate that people are concerned about the environment and our countryside...But getting more housing for struggling families, single parents and alike is more important than a bit of grass and trees.”

“How many stalled developments are there in town that are now temporary car parks or just waste ground? It doesn't make any sense for any greenfield sites to be developed until brownfield land is built on. There isn't any decent public transport out of town and the roads won't be able to cope with 100s of new houses. More importantly, the town centre/Freemo will continue to decline if development on the outskirts is encouraged. Is there anybody in charge with any sense?!”

“OOOPS! Sorry chaps. Upset the GT's PC-Marshall!
Should have typed kôôkaburrah or kÚkkabÚrra, to be sure to be sure. Doesn't matter though. We know the laughing jackasses, do we not?
Come on chaps. It's cold, windy and lonely here on Ladysmith Rd and Freemo. Join in!!”

“Greedy people down Humberston Avenue have been selling their gardens for years to make a profit. Why moan when the builders want to.”

Oh yes indeed Gary... and don't forget the bid for more, in quantity, to the SE of Scartho, beyond Shaw Drive!
Of course they are all going to revitalize the centre of Grimsby from the West end of Pasture St through the whole of Freemo.
Is that Daddy Xmas, ho-ho-ho-ing already -- or the sarcastic jackass cry of the ****aburrah?
H@h Bl@ddy H@h!”

“Look under planning application DC/745/12/HUM on North East Lincolnshire council planning site. This is for land near Tesco just up the road for a future development of possibly 1500 dwellings...”

“Further to my ult:
May I refer you to this morning's New York Times... and ask if you think that NE£incs Council ever thinks beyond their never-started 'Masterplans' and has some original ideas that relate to the mess we are in?. This material might give somebody a few intelligent leads in the continuing Ladysmith-rd/Birdseye and Death-of-Freemo debacles?

Tassafaronga Village and Richardson Apartments in Bay Area

OAKLAND, Calif. — When Tassafaronga Village, a mixed-income development, opened in East Oakland two years ago, it replaced a compound of grim, crumbling, low-rise concrete buildings penned in by a gated fence. The complex was a typical, segregated 1960s housing project, on contaminated land between an industrial belt and a gritty stretch of single-family houses, notoriously dangerous.

Dare I suggest, AGAIN, that 'Freemo' needs people close by. NE£incs council should give top priority to Ladysmith-road and the vacant lots scattered within walking distance of the now dead Freeman-st area. Thank doG for the big AsDa and the Co-op, at least bringing people [and safe parking] to within walking distance of what's left.
NE£INCS! STAMP ON DEVELOPERS WANTING TO ADD TO TRAFFIC FROM THE OUTSKIRTS WHILE DESTROYING THE LUNGS OF THE TOWN. Let's rub the two brain cells together, eh?”

“Green-field development of ANY sort with the connivance of NE£incs Council is an abomination. The council should direct ALL 'planning' at the gross brownfield site that is Grimsby. The have all their work cut out to make amends for the almost total destruction of a relatively decent town in recent years, carried out by them and their predecessors with the ardour of a Luftwaffe -- and with similar absent recompense.
And NO MORE UNFULFILLED MASTERPLANS, PLEASE. We've got enough to keep a latterday Vitruvius busy for more than 100 years without the Council's pie-in-the-sky claptrap!
GT. Just look in your morgue [the archive] and see the acres of space you've given to all that 'pie in the sky'. If you want the relevant dates, all you have to do is ask.”
