Resort could be "new Scarborough"
CLEETHORPES could be the new Scarborough, according to members of the resort's renaissance team.
The Cleethorpes Renaissance Town Team is arranging a trip to the North Yorkshire resort to see how it might be able to replicate some of the seaside town's regeneration success closer to home.

“The biggest single disadvantage that Cleethorpes has is that most of the visitors have to pass through Grimsby to reach it.
If sitting in the stalled traffic on Cleethorpe / Grimsby Road does not put visitors off then the lack of proper parking near the seafront certainly will.
Why on earth the council and successive "clever" planners narrowed such a wide road to a shadow of its former width I have no idea.”

“To everyone who is criticising the 'negativity' on this forum..well maybe its because we've heard all these 'positive' stories before. Many times. Cleethorpes stopped being a popular resort years ago. The gradual decline of popular facilities, the ever increasing development of so called luxury flats, car parks and fast food outlets. The best facilities are privately owned, Parkway cinema, The Light Railway etc. All popular and well maintained because they have nothing to do with NELC. The Rennaissance team will compile a report, make recommendations....and then disappear from view. Fact.”

“Mathew Brown.
Please don't take the public for fools.
Anyone with any sense can see that this Town team is just another self appointed quango, visits to other resorts at who'se expense? sounds like lots of free holidays whilst everyone else pays.
Sounds quite familiar to me. Mr Brown are you related to the other freeloading Mr Brown?. One word of advice, please take Shona with you.”

“Matthew, well done for pointing out who is funding all this, plus if you are a volunteer, you do need more support. A good write up of progress, visions of what will work and what could be avoided by the ¿lessons learned¿.
In my work ¿lessons learned¿ are invaluable, as for regeneration of the town, at least the main parts haven¿t been demolished for shopping precincts.
I think any advice you could give to the council is ¿Don¿t listen to developers, as in ¿Apartment Investors¿.
The get rich quick schemes of developers are here today, gone tomorrow. Any eyesores are in the rear view mirror.
If you are knowledgeable of the processes of bringing the area back to fruit and attracting people from outside, all you really have to do is, as you said get the people on your side.
Your side I hope won¿t be blinkered into flashy schemes that last a year or two, needing another look at, as soon as the paints dry.
Lots of ideas are needed, input from locals as we live here all the year around.
Money making isn¿t always the way to go either, attract tourist to a nice place and the trade does it¿s own thing.
Whilst all this talk is going on, will a provision be made for any work to be impressed to be carried out by local labour and management.
I do hope the town is brought up to scratch with other seafront towns of good standing.
¿The Proof is in the Pudding¿ apparently.”

“the thing cleethorpes needs is MONEY!! none of this palnning will come to anything if there is NO Money! Private investment is all well and good but who's going to invest in the area where many buildings are derelict. I spent many years working on the seafront and it is a great place, but it needs Government Investment, Civic buildings that will bring both vistors and Money to the Resort, this in turn will lead to more money for the Local Authority which it can re invest into the area. Seems simple to me, why cant the local authority figure that out?? Oh I know.. budgets, bad investments, lack of cordination/leadership/foresight. etc etc”
