NEW buyers and housing associations have hit back at new figures that claim there is not enough affordable housing in our area.

The latest figures, released yesterday as part of the Government's annual Communities and Local Government (CLG) report, show that just 80 affordable homes were built in North East Lincolnshire in the past year and that none had been provided the previous year.

The report classifies affordable homes as social and private rental properties as well as low-cost homes available to buy.

‘BRILLIANT’: Emma Bell, partner Les and son McKenzie at the Freshney Green development.

The figures were released 24 hours after the publication of the authority's Comprehensive Area Assessment, which also criticised the provision of affordable homes in the borough.

Under their criteria, it said 112 new affordable homes had been built in the area since 2007 – against a Government target of 169.

However, local developers Stamford Homes and social landlord Shoreline Housing Partnership said a number of schemes were already in place to construct new homes – both to rent and buy – throughout the area.

“I intend to build a four bedroom home with sunken lounge and indoor swimming pool out of lego. Prior plans to build a home from gypsy tears were abandoned due to physics. The advantages of using lego blocks over traditional building methods, in regards to durability and gaiety of colour, are without question. The only issues are finding a block of land that has a flat green plastic base and gaining council approval.

If there is any one interested please let me know.”
