Rivals battling it out for runners-up trophy
CLEE Cons B might be romping to the Roy Ling Mutual Grimsby Snooker Doubles League title – but the battle is still on for the runners-up trophy.
Clee Cons A, once the whipping boys in this section, are back in contention after thrashing Hainton B 5-1 at Grimsby Road.
And a 4-2 victory against club-mates Linden Homes A leaves Linden Homes B in second, just three points ahead of their rivals.
The Cons swept into a 3-1 lead against Hainton when Chris Farrow and Jimmy Yates won 2-0, and Craig Thomas and Damon Gresham shared with Sean Bartlett and John Ford. Mick Goodwin and Rob Willerton completed the win with a last-board 2-0.

Linden Homes B were locked at two-apiece with their A team before Jonathan Leggett and Chris Madsen won the last two frames to seal the victory. Earlier, Glen Leggett, Anthony Jagger, Daz Evans and Gaz Horsfall had shared with the A team's John Baker, Chris Brown, and John and Peter Dannatt.
Taylor Made Carpets may yet have a say in proceedings after they won 5-1 at home against Blossom Way B. Myles Kennan and Dave Robertson won the frame for the Blossoms, against Craig Taylor and Keith Tomlinson, whilst Fred Parker, Keith Southwell, Mark Stevens and Ian Sadler – who made a break of 36 – collected the rest of the points for the Carpets.
West End A suffered a minor setback when they were held to a 3-3 draw at lowly Clee Bowls C. Pete and Dave Cullum, Neil Batts, Colin Grey, Geoff Ford and Gill Clarke all won a frame for the Bowlers.
Gerry Howes and Dave Hallberg won the first two frames for Healing Legion A only to see Roy Gibney and Dave Morley win the next two for New Street Lads. The Westlands outfit had to concede the last two frames as they were a pair short so lost the match 4-2.
It is still nip and tuck in Section A with only one point separating the top two teams after they both enjoyed 5-1 victories.
Dads & Lads victims were at Healing Mens, whose frame came from Den Wallis and Jamie Wallis against Jase and Mathew Lawton. Martin and Taylor Dowling and Brad Burrell and Lewis Sewell were the 2-0 winners for the Dads.
Nats' win came at West End B. Steve Drinkell, Dan Hargrave, Ryan Johnstone and Terry Blanchard all won 2-0, and Nige Emmerson and Mick Goodwin shared with Walt Simpson and Barry Jebson.
A single from David James and Geoff Brown, against Ray Revell and Art McDougal, and a 2-0 from Paul Abbott and Pete Gibson put Standard A 3-1 up at Cromwell B.
They couldn't add to that, however, as David Telfer and Daz Burrows won the last two frames for the home team to earn them a share of the spoils.
